In Denmark, the technical characteristics of the cycling infrastructure are defined with simple rules, in relation to the speed of the cars in the adjacent road.
- 10-30 km/h: no separation
- 40 km/h: separated with painted line
- 50-60 km/h: separated with a small curb
- 70-130 km/h: independent bike path
- Bike lane is always to the right side of parking slots
- Bi-directional bike lanes only if the bike path is independent
